Sewing for Hearts for Hearts Girls Dolls: Creativity time!

How creative can you be with a simple pattern? Look what Mrs. Kathy Webster-Link made from Beach Baby Doll's simple patterns to fit the Hearts for Hearts Girls Dolls and other 13-14  inch girl dolls. I love the eyelet nightie with her creative use of eyelet material and ribbon embellishement. It looks like she lined it too by putting in an underskirt made from the bodice piece just cut a little smaller. Simple to do and so beautiful. Kathy says she enjoys making these outfits for 6 blessed little girls in her life!

Above is a bunny print flannel gown made with the same pattern.
This time Kathy made a cute sort of leg of muffin sleeve treatment by inserting elastic in the sleeve at the short sleeve line. This makes the upper portion of the sleeve puff up a bit. Love it!  She also put some elastic at the waist.  This gown hardly looks like the same pattern as the eyelet one, but it is.

Time for Fall! Kathy's  doll looks so happy to be back in school in this denim jumper and three quarter length sleeve T . I like the way she frayed the edges of the kangaroo pocket and adapted the sleeve length for the season just adding on a couple of inches. Here's the jumper and tee pattern  she used.

You can see more of Kathy's adorable colorful outfits on our Your Creations Page.  Grandmas make memories! Wouldn't you like to show us some of your creations with our patterns? I would love to see them.

Besides sewing and being a busy grandmother, Kathy works for a great organization called Dispensary of Hope. They help people to obtain free medication.

BeachBabyDoll loves Doll Diaries new American Doll Room give-away contest!

Hey all, I joined the Doll Diaries and American Doll Room give-away contest so I could win a doll room. You're supposed to describe the room you want and how you will use it. Well, there's a million possibilities! I commented on a different room than this, but then I was thinking that boys would really like the barn or cabin room for their  horses or action figures" hideouts. I don't know why I didn't think of that first now that I have a grandson! The fun's not limited to girls! The rooms are so cute and so many possibilities for imaginative play for boys, girls, moms, dads and grandparents. They fold up too which is great because most people don't have a lot of space! See the room sets at American Doll Room  Then join the contest at Doll Diaries.  Hope I win! How about you?
(PS: Nobody's paying me to post this! I have no connection with Doll Diaries or American Doll Room. They're both really creative.)

Camp Time!

Lots of people are camping Right Now. Even dolls! For, instance Doll Diaries has had a wonderful camp on-line. I hope you got to see it.

My little doll above is excited about VBS, that's Vacation Bible School. I know the VBS at my church (Harbor Baptist of Ormond Beach) is sort of like camp. I know because I go too! This year I'll be counting the campers' points. Wonder who will be on the green team and who will be on the blue?  Maybe you? It's going to be all about some Wild times in the lives of some great Bible people like Noah and the flood, Elijah and an incredible tornado, Jacob and a liberating ladder climb and even Jonah--remember he got swallowed by a whale! We're going to learn some great things about God! If you live near Ormond Beach, Florida; we would love to have you participate.(Date: July 15- 19 For more info, click on harborbaptistormondbeach.com)

Our young folks returned last week from sleep-away camp at the Wilds in North Carolina.
Campers playing games at the Wilds camp in N.C.
You can find the full report if you click the Camp Report tab at the top of the page. We are so thankful to the Lord that each one could go this year. And we so appreciate the adult sponsors who drove and accompanied them.

Make a Doll Swim Suit from Socks; Easy tutorial

BeachBabyDoll's Sock Swim Suit Edition
Need a quick swim suit for your dolls? Grab some children's socks and make your own! Requires only imagination and a few stitches:
BFC Ink 18 in dolls

Vintage Tiffany Taylor 18 in doll

A Quick tutorial:
1. Choose your socks carefully.  For these slim body 18 inch dolls, I found cute socks at my dollar store. I chose children's size 6 - 8.You may need a larger or smaller size sock depending on the size of your doll. Take the doll to the store with you to help size it out.  I used the sport sock type. They were 3 pairs for $1, really easy on my wallet. The packs contained co-ordinating designs so easy to mix and match. See Tiffany above. Tools needed are only: scissors, needle and thread.
sports style socks

2.  Next I looked at my doll and decided where here bulges were and where the bulges in the socks were (the heels!). Take a look at Tiffany. She has large breasts and hips so I could use a heel portion over the breast area and the hips. However, I chose to use the heel portion over the hips of all three dolls so that I could use the band as a waist band. For the girls I cut a cute area for the tube top  There are several ways you can cut the socks to make a cute suit.  For Tiffany I could have made a one piece tube tank style suit because she is slightly smaller. For the boy doll I was careful to choose some masculine looking stripes to make him a sort of Speedo suit. Below is how I cut a bottom and top out of two socks.

You just sort of "eye ball" the sock, holding it up next to your doll to see how long to cut the piece. Consider the design on the sock when you cut. Make the piece too long at first. You can always cut more off.

3.  Try on your doll. I tried the pants portion on inside out so I could see where to sew up the crotch. The second picture below looks a little gross, sorry dolly, but I just show you that I pinched the suit together at the crotch. I actually sewed the crotch while the suit was still on my dolls. Pinching the right sides of the bottom of the suit together, I used sort of an overcast or whip stitch to secure the crotch.  I chose not to finish the edges of the pants legs because they are knit and weren't unraveling. If you desire to make it finished, you can just make a small hem with a running stitch. See my free hand sewing handout:   For the pink suit's top, I turned under the edges and stitched with a running stitch.
4. Optional: To help hold the top in place: you can tack a piece of  skinny ribbon at the center front of the tube top. Tie behind her neck. You could also make little straps out of ribbon and attach to the back. I was on vacation and had no ribbon so for my BFC Ink doll I just used some thread.

This is a great little project to do on vacation with your children and grandchildren. If you try it out, I would love to see what you made. If you would like to send me a photo, you can find my contact info on my main web site at BeachBabyDoll.com

I hope you and your dolls are ready for a great summer. Just a word of caution: My dolls love to pose in the sun but never swim as they could get mold inside. They do not like to stay outside too long either 'cause their hair could turn pinkish!

Esther looks for Spring and Easter brings a Song to my heart.

Esther looks for Spring high up in this wonderful tree.
Spring is coming, maybe a little slower than last year. My doll Esther has a Special Message for you. See the post below. She's excited about Easter. I am too. Easter means New Birth to me. As a Christ follower, I believe I have been born again all because Jesus saved me from my sins by forgiving me and helping me do better! That is the most special gift anyone ever gave me.
This year in a few days, maybe on Easter if he comes when scheduled, my first grandchild, Charlie, will be born. That's a new physical birth for our family too and very special. I can hardly wait to see him. His Mommy and Daddy are all ready. I thank God for them and for His blessing of Charlie.
I was so happy to hear the pre-schoolers of Bible Study Fellowship in Daytona Beach sing last Wednesday Morning. One song they sang is Good Morning God. I hope to sing it to Charlie really soon!

 Good Morning God
Good morning God, this is your day.
I am your child, show me the way.

The was my church's memory verse for March:

Isaiah 12:2 (New Living Translation)

See, God has come to save me.
I will trust in him and not be afraid.
The Lord God is my strength and my song;
    he has given me victory.”

I hope all of my readers enjoy this Easter time and remember the blessings God gives them and sing!

New Sewing Pattern for Hearts for Hearts Girls, Les Cheries, Groovy Girls

My Les Cheries doll Capuchine got to be the cover girl for my new pattern: the V-Neck Jumper Pattern Bundle. (I was supposed to finish it by Valentine's Day, but, alas...) However, Red is my favorite color! The pattern will fit not only, Les  Cheries, but Hearts for Hearts Girls, and Groovy Girls too. There's really three patterns in one:  The Jumper, The versatile Jewel Neck T which looks nice under a variety of clothes, and the ever-so-cute leg warmers that look like socks when paired with lace up shoes. As usual, the pattern comes with full color graphic instructions. It would be easy to make the jumper into a little summer dress with some lace around the neck and ruffles on the armcyes. Maybe some lace on the leg warmers too? This pattern bundle is available at BeachBabyDoll.com
and now at BeachBabyDoll.etsy.com   Instant downloading is available now through the Etsy Shop.

Happy Valentine's Day!

To all my followers and bloggers everywhere: May you remember the goodness and love for you from our Heavenly Father today.

Easy Prairie Girl Dress Pattern for American Girl Dolls

Today I am so happy to feature this lovely Prairie Girl costume made by one of my customers, Stephanie. Stephanie used BeachBabyDoll's Everything Doll Costume pattern to make this gorgeous, yet simple dress and apron. Stephanie demonstrates in her work that it doesn't have to be difficult to be delightful!
You can see in the following close-ups what nice skills Stephanie used in making very neat gathers in the apron and in placing the buttons and bow precisely. I love the trim she used for the apron waistband and the contrasting thread in the hem.
Stephanie's lovely prairie dress will be displayed on BeachBabyDoll's "Your Creations" page where you all can inspire us. Thanks so much, Stephanie!

Taxi Billy: City Girl and New Girl in town

I won Tonner's new City Girl doll Taxi Billy(on the left) from Doll Diaries! You can see how well she was received by my Ellowyne Wilde doll (right). Billy is all dressed up in the fabulous ruffly, lacey Networking outfit that came with her in the prize.  I love her silver sandals and lacey net stockings! Ellowyne is telling Billy all about what it is like living with the dolls at Mrs. Sylvia's house.. Billy is very appreciative of the info. She even let Ellowyne try on her "meet" jacket. Ellowyne can wear some of Taxi Billy's clothes, but sadly, not all and not the shoes! Let's listen in to their conversation:

Ellowyne: "You won't have to worry about clothes here, Billy. Mrs. Sylvia will make you some."
Billy: "That's great because I only have two outfits."
Ellowyne:  "You'll just need to get measured, not my favorite pasttime."
Billy: "Oh, wouldn't it be fun to wear matching outfits!"
Ellowyne: "Hmm, I'm not sure. I'm used to being, well, one of a kind. Besides me, you are the only doll here that is a 16 inch teen."
Billy: " Then, for sure, we will be good friends. Whatever you decide about matching outfits is okay with me. I'm excited to see what new clothes I'll get."

So it looks like Billy and Ellowyne are off to a good start.I plan to make some patterns that fit the both of them. Taxi Billy and the City Girls are an economical version of a BJD  (multiple ball jointed doll) made by Tonner Toys. Most Tonner dolls cost over $100 dollars but the City Girls in their basic lingerie outfits are about $35. There is a difference in the quality. of course, but still they are fun dolls. The shoes are a bit frustrating to put on but I love their look. I like that these dolls can be expressive with their hands too. The color combinations in their outfits are super. I feel very happy and appreciative to Char at Doll Diaries.  Char had a good description of the dolls on her site.
The City Girls have their own web site at Tonner. The dolls and a few outfits can be purchased there.
Coming soon: more sewing patterns to fit Ellowynne and City Girl dolls from BeachBabyDoll.com

8 year old makes Roman Costume for her doll!

8 year olds make super seamstresses with some fun guidance from mom. Chalice gave her daughter BeachBabyDoll's Everything Doll Costume to help with a school project and look at the results!

She picked great materials for the times and even added the broach!

Nice job on the neck binding.. Maybe she made the necklace too?

She even made the sandals with mom. Chalice said: ". I cut the leather and my daughter assembled them and laced them up."
I love this school project because it really teaches the children about the clothing of the "ancients". I'm so glad my pattern could help.  Chalice was so sweet to give me the link to the Free Roman Sandal directions for flat footed dolls. I know you are going to want to try your hand at making them too. Here's the link.  Very helpful for making our Bible time costumes have more authentic footwear!

If you check out "Your Creations" page, you'll find more customer creations using the BeachBabyDoll patterns. Today, I gave the page a new, improved look. Hope you enjoy it.

Look what Dee made to fit My Twinn! Go South Carolina!

Fleece doll pajamas made from BeachBabyDoll's Tee and Simple Pants Patterns to fit My Twinn dolls.
Another one of our wonderful customers shared a photo of her work from BeachBabyDoll's My Twinn patterns. What is pictured is a pair of My Twinn size fleece pajamas to match the ones Dee made her granddaughter. Lucky girl! They are University of South Carolina fans. Here' s what Dee wrote:
"Here is a picture of the 1st pair of PJs I made for the My Twinn doll from your patterns.  They match PJs I made for my granddaughter and are the University of South Carolina print.  I made the sleeves longer and body a little longer than your tee shirt and the front neck lower, to match what the "real" pajamas looked like.  I think she'll like them.  I don't have the doll with me, so hope they'll fit.  The fabric is heavy fleece, but seemed to work well."
Great job, Dee! Thanks so much for sharing.
Addendum: 1-19-2013: Here's another great pair of doll pajamas Dee made:

Are you inspired to share something  you've made from BeachBabyDoll's patterns? We'd love to see. This outfit will be posted on the Your Creations Page at .http://www.beachbabydollfeedback.blogspot.com/p/customers.html

This week I'm making a new pattern for 13-14 inch dolls like Les Cheries, Hearts for Hearts Girls, and Groovy Girls. The flu has slowed me down a bit. Hope nobody else got it.
