My doll Nicole visits the Holy Land

Going to the Holy Land at Christmas time was such a good idea that my doll Nicole, me and my hub decided to do just that. Since we couldn't quite afford the fare to Jerusalem, we decided to visit the Holy Land Experience theme park in Orlando.  What a marvelous Christmas celebration it was! I hope you will enjoy Nicole's trip in her story. Just click: Nicole goes to the Holy Land  I couldn't begin to get pictures of all the wonderful things we saw so I just hope you can visit someday. The gospel message is the main theme of this theme park!

Merry Christmas!

This photo is Project Child's dolls for Haitian Girls.
I apologize for not blogging more.  BeachBabyDoll.com so appreciates all her customers and their help in sending children to Christian camp. I've been hard at work getting your doll fashions to you and celebrating with family this great time of year.

Recently, I received a great newsletter from Project Child and wanted to share it with my readers.  You will all be interested in the dolls heading to Haiti for Christmas! Sadly, I did not have anything to do with preparing these lovelies for their trip though I have sewn for Project Child in the past. Don't they look beautiful and excited for their journey!  What a great gift for the girls. (The boys are getting soccer balls.)  These dolls are dressed in their school uniforms. You will enjoy reading their newsletter.  Just click here

I hope through this season we all  (especially me!) don't get  too busy and can focus on Christ and what great gifts He has given the world!!!!! As we remember  from the Bible in John 3: 16 and 17
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach!

Just Cruisin"

"Hope everyone has a safe and good time in our wonderful community!"
Biketoberfest is in full swing in Daytona Beach, FL.  We love to have the Bikers visit. My Yuko doll whom I named Diette loves to ride her "bike". Okay, I know she doesn't have a helmet. But she's not real so anybody reading this who is real definitely should remember their helmet. The good Lord, our Great Creator, gave us such a fine day today. She just had to get out and celebrate the weather! We pray for fun and safety for all the Biketoberfest participants. Come back for Bike Week in the Spring!

Do you know Vincent DeFilippo is a famous Christian doll face sculptor?

Look at your little Cabbage Patch friends if you have one or two still. Aren't they adorable! Did you know that the artist who made the sculpt for their facemold is Vincent J.DeFilippo? He is also famous for his face sculpts for the gorgeous My Twinn dolls when they were first introduced.  I acquired my beautiful My Twinn whom I named "Nita" recently in an auction. Her head bares his signature so I did some research. And voila! I came up with this video from 1985 on Youtube. It's so amazing how the Lord has each of us a purpose for the gifts he's given us. Mr. Defilippo is the face behind those faces we love and God's the face behind his face! His story is so encouraging for these bad times. Check out the video.

Just by "co-incidence" the verse of the day on the day I first posted this was:

Hebrews 10:35-36

New International Version (NIV)
35 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.
36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

Kind of goes with Mr. Defilippo's faith in the video, right?
Does anyone know any more about this artist?

Baby Dolls! You gotta love 'em

Ponderings:  I'm getting ready for my church's Labor Day doll sale. A friend of mine donated this cutie. I am so in love with her!!! She's so squeezable and soft and cute and just sweet! It's been a long time since I held a baby or even a baby doll! Too long. But that makes me even more excited because I'm going to be helping teach the 2 -3 year olds in Bible Study Fellowship. They're not babies, but close enough. I am really looking forward to it. Hope I do a good job. Hope I tell the stories well on their level and remember the finger plays and sing "this is the way we clean up our toys!" And we'll be thanking God just the way I did when I was a little girl.  Did you ever pray this blessing at meals?
"Thank you for the world so sweet.  Thank you for the food we eat. Thank you for the birds that sing. Thank you, God, for everything."

Paper Dolls by Katie Priest!!!!

I just love paper dolls!  I was so happy to find a new Christian friend on etsy who is a delightful artist making whimsical little paper dolls for girls of all ages! Her name is Katie Priest and we share a love of Psalm 139 too! Her little paper girls are so adorable that I got her permission to put copies of her photos here. You can purchase her printable paper dolls or they come also already printed. Best of all, I think you will love her story written to me in her own words so here it is:

"Well, I've always been artistic, but I haven't always sought God's direction for my art.  Because of the talent I had been blessed with, I was always approached by friends, co-workers, and eventually clients for comissioned work.  So, the buyer was calling the shots for the purpose and potential of my art.   I painted custom work, murals in million dollar homes, commercial peices for new businesses, and even took an apprenticeship with a local artist in California.  I was plenty capable and was always grateful for that, but never satisfied. I would take the order, ask the questions, design the piece, and finish it without an ounce of passion.  They were always pleased, I was always dissapointed.  I have wrestled with questions about my talent for many years. Why did God give me this talent? What am I supossed to do with it?  I'm not sure I've found the answers to those questions completely, but I think I'm heading in the right direction.
When my daughter was born, I decided to leave teaching and stay home with her. It has been a wonderful blessing to walk with her through these first two years of development and lead her toward God's will. One truth has become blindingly apparent to me: Children look for guidance. They seek direction and encouragment in everything they do...and what are we showing them?  Walking through the mall, I read little pink t-shirts on 7, 9, and 12 year olds: "I don't have to be smart, I'm pretty." "Your boyfriends said I'm a better kisser than you."  "Crazy Sexy Cool"..... Our little girls are no longer protected, no longer encouraged, and no longer allowed to flourish in the innocence of their gender.  I felt paralized by the questions I had. How do I battle the effects of Hannah Montana? Why are they selling lacy panties and hooker boots in the little girls section? How do I cure Beiber fever? Who is going to be the teachers, protectors, and nurturers of the next generation if we all want to be famous dancers, singers, and athletes? Why doesn't anyone care?  When the feelings of overwhelming desperation subsided, I was able to recieve wisdom and comfort.  I am only one.  And yet, at least I am one.
I designed my entire line of stationary characters and paper dolls with Psalm 139:14 in mind.  In fact the scripture: "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.." is printed on base of the paper doll file as a reminder with each purchase.  Paper dolls were a precious part of my childhood. I played endlessly with the punch out clothing and accessories, and even made my own. I still love the versatile nature of these nostalgic toys as an adult and I hope to inspire a new generation of little girls to be imaginative in their play.  But, more importantly, the clothing and accessories I design are guided by my desire to portray wholesomeness and innocence rather than the sexy diva culture our girls are surrounded with.  The dolls are meant to celebrate each unique style and the endless diversity we see in God's children, without the sexual entrapment of Bratz, Barbie, or other fashion-based dolls.   I know the lure of what's out there will always be stronger than my efforts, but I have hope in knowing I can at least provide something else, something better, for those who seek it.  My hope is that moms, grandmas, aunts, and friends will buy these for the little girls in their life, cut them out with them, encourage discussion about current style trends, read the scripture, and give them some good hearty guidance in the area of value."

How, with God's help, she does it:

"The paper dolls were originally designed as stationary characters. My mom suggested that I make paper dolls since I loved them when I was a kid.  I designed the first doll and just made multiple heads/hair for all the different girls.  Then I assigned colors to each one and started designing their clothes.  When designing an outfit, I lay my paper over the doll, so I can see her dimensions through the page and work around that.  I made the boots my signature thing...so all the dolls outfits coordinate with the rainboots. =)  Everything is done in colored pencil and scanned in to the computer. I use a photo program to brighten all the colors and have them printed at Office Depot on bright white cardstock.  You can also put magnets on the back, laminate them, or use velcro for younger kids (my two year old).  I am always thinking of new clothing designs, but am careful to make my designs reflect my ideas about modesty and innocence. "
I love her Girl Scout and Brownie Scout note cards 'cause I was like forever a Girl Scout. See how cute!
You can find her wonderfull paper dolls and note cards in her etsy shop MsKatiesArtStudio  and also in Dollabee.com (in the category of "Other").
Great gifts! Great for travel! Great for Grannies to have on hand when your girls visit! Great to play with in bed at night under the covers with your flashlight! Who knows maybe you could design some great paper dolls some day too!

Cool at the Pool in a new swimsuit!

Hey, Cyberworld, are you hot out there?  Even my dolls are roasting. Kaitlin, one of my Best Friends Club dolls, was just ecstatic when I made her a new swimsuit. The pattern was FREE (from www.libertyjanepatterns.com). What was fun about it was using a new material: fold over elastic. So great for projects with elasticized arm holes, etc. I got some of it very reasonably at a great etsy shop (The Trimming). I did have to adapt this pattern  with skinny back velcro as the suit was just too tight for little hands to get it on a BFC doll. I also straightened out the chest piece a bit.  I don't believe these adaptations would be necessary for the American Girl size. Now I better get back to sewing. No way, I'm jumping in the pool! Let's go swimmin all ye women!

Safe Return of the Atlantis!

I thank the Lord for the safe return of the Atlantis and for the dedication, perserverence and hardwork of all the space shuttle mission staff over the decades!

Good Final Launch

My doll Nicole waves good-by to Atlantis as it roars off into space. We only saw a teeny flash from Ormond Beach but the roar was heard. Too many clouds today for a great view, but our hearts are with the astronauts and all the Shuttle workers.  I will really miss the shuttle flights. So inspiring! Thank you wonderful people, and thanks be to God too.
After the shuttle was safely in flight, Nicole took a look at the sea turtle's nest. She was careful not to touch anything.  There are several on our beach.

Happy Fourth of July, Everyone!

Today in church we said the pledge of allegiance to the Flag::

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands.  One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

I love our pledge because it reminds me that eventhough we are an imperfect nation, our sovereign is still God. He's in charge. We also learned today from His Word in the Bible that God says:
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14

None of us are perfect and neither is our country. God loves us and wants to be close to us, but He can't be if we do bad things. So this verse gives me such great hope for the possibility of healing in our country of what as a country we do wrong and what as individuals we do wrong, as long as we humble ourselves by saying to God what we do wrong (sin) and really seek to know God and His heart which He revealed by sending Himself as Jesus as the perfect man to take the punishment we deserve. (Check out John 3:16 -17)

It 's so wonderful to live in a country where I can write this freely. It's wonderful to live in a country where I can praise my God and Savior for His forgiveness of my bad things and show my joy in knowing that He loves me forever.

We also sang a great song today:

"If My people's hearts are humbled, if they pray and seek My face;
If they turn away from evil, I will not withhold My grace.
I will hear their prayers from heaven; I will pardon every sin.
If My people's hearts are humbled, I will surely heal their land.

Then My eyes will see their sorrow, then My ears will hear their plea;
If My people's hearts are humbled, I will set their nation free.
If My people's hearts are humbled, if they pray and seek my face;
If they turn away from evil, I will not withhold My grace."

Have you ever cried outloud because you were so sorry you did something wrong? Well, God says He listens and completely heals our humble, broken hearts. Hooray!

(Please note this posting has absolutely nothing to do with politics, Republicans or Democrats, only hearts).  Hugs, Sylvia

Who is dancing this summer?

Are you taking a special dancing class this summer?  Are you leaping for joy or trying something different like the hula? Maybe your dolls are dancing? (Mine are.) Check out Jasmine's blog http://imdancingonclouds.blogspot.com/2011/06/life-is-full-of-wonderfulness.html#comment-form
She was even flying! Congratulations to Jasmine on her award!
Here's some pictures of my dolls dancing. I don't have any pictures of me dancing! But in my heart I am!

Today's verse reads the Lord is my strength and makes my feet like a deer's enabling me to go in high places. Habbakuk 3:19. That reminds me of Jasmine!
Not dancing?  What are you doing special this summer? Maybe you're going to camp or horseback riding!

Or maybe, you're having fun in the neighborhood playing hide and seek?
  Comments welcomed!

Congratulations to Prince William and Princess Catherine!

Congratulations to England's newly wed royal highnesses! Lena Grace says it all with her dolls in this picture. They're jumping for joy!
Check out her other pictures in her albums by clicking  here

I loved their vows.  So beautiful and sacred:
The vows were administered by The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams the head of the Church of England. [I copied these from the reference below]

"William Arthur Phillip Louis, wilt thou have this woman to thy wedded wife to live together according to God's law in the holy estate of matrimony. Wilt thou love her, comfort her, honor and keep her in sickness and in health and forsaking all other keep thee only unto her, so long as ye both shall live?"

"I will," Prince William said.

The Archbishop then turned to the bride.

"Catherine Elizabeth. Wilt thou have this man to thy wedded husband to live together according to God's law in the holy estate of matrimony. Wilt thou love him, comfort him, honor and keep him in sickness and in health and forsaking all other keep thee only unto him, so long as ye both shall live?"

"I will," Catherine said.

"Who giveth this woman to be married to this man?" the Archbishop asked, with Catherine's father Michael standing to her left.

The father took his daughter's right hand, handed it to the Archbishop who then placed it in the groom's right hand.

The Archbishop then had Prince William repeat after him.

"I William Arthur Phillip Louis take thee Catherine Elizabeth to my wedded wife to have and to hold from this day forward. For better, for worse. For richer, for poorer. In sickness and in health. To love and to cherish. Till death us do part. According to God's holy law. And thereto I give thee my troth."

It was then Catherine's turn.

"I Catherine Elizabeth take thee William Arthur Phillip Louis to my wedded husband to have and to hold from this day forward. For better, for worse. For richer, for poorer. In sickness and in health. To love and to cherish. Till death us do part. According to God's holy law. And thereto I give thee my troth."

The Archbishop then read a blessing for the ring.

"Bless the Lord this ring. And grant that he who gives it and she who shall wear it may remain faithful to each other and abide in thy peace and favor and live together in love until their lives end through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen."

Prince William then slipped the ring on the bride's index finger and repeated after the Archbishop.

"With this ring I thee wed. With my body I thee honor and all my worldly goods with thee I share. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen."

New dress for Easter!

Nicole likes her new pink Easter Dress. Today she's organizing an egg hunt, but she's saving Easter Sunday for her very special time at church with Jesus for worship.  It's beautiful weather now in Florida. She has to think of some special places to hide Easter Eggs. Her brother Ryan always finds them too fast. Any ideas?

I love my large Best Friends Club, Ink doll

I got a gift of a new Best Friends Club large doll.  She's Yuko. Such a beautifully sculpted doll!  She's Asian, I would think, Japanese by her name.  Made by MGA entertainment, she's quite a bit skinnier that American Girl or even some of the other hard plastic or vinyl dolls. I have started sewing for her and put one outfit so far in my etsy shop.  She came with all the clothes and accessories you see in these first two pictures and a little book that can be personalized.
What I like best is that she can do a million poses. She even stands well on her little legs! Here are some of the poses.
She's actually standing alone in this position!

Practicing her dancing, she has to hold to chair

Look how nice she sits and can position her hands so many ways!
She's definitely a doll for older girls. I can see her and her BFC friends making awesome stop-animation videos as she can move so many joints. Maybe there are some on Youtube.com already.
Since I want to give a complete review, there are a couple of things that could be improved. Her hair is pretty dry. I plan to Downy Dunk it. Her clothes, while cute and trendy, are not made so very well.  The leggings actually slip down in the back--but no worries she has painted-on white panties! The jacket was a real struggle to get on but looks great on her.  Sewing for her is not as bad as for Barbie but not as easy as for AG.
Her best attribute is her sweet face.  Seeing her reminds me to pray for our Japanese sisters and brothers during these days of disaster. She also recalls to my mind my wonderful roommate at the University of Hawaii, DeEtte.
